UNESCO 2020 Annual Report

Preamble

The UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa works with Eastern Africa National Commissions for UNESCO in building synergies and strengthening cooperation with Member States at the national and regional levels to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 as well as the African Union Agenda 2063.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we realigned our interventions through ongoing partnerships and coordination contributing to the strategic results of United Nations Country Teams, the African Union, Regional Economic Communities—including: the East African Community (EAC); Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD); Southern African Development Community (SADC); Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA); Community of Sahel–Saharan States (CEN–SAD)--to contribute to sustainable development and peacebuilding in the Eastern Africa region.
